Know the Real Price Before You Start

Asked whether he would found Nvidia again, Huang says no: the most honest thing a founder of a multi-trillion-dollar company has said about what it costs.

On the Acquired podcast in October 2023, Huang was asked what he would do if he were 30 again. As Fortune reported it, he said “I wouldn’t do it”: building Nvidia had been far harder than he expected. In a 2026 How I Built This interview, asked the same question, he reportedly answered: “The answer, absolutely not.”

The ongoing bill. On Joe Rogan’s podcast in December 2025, Fortune reports, he said he works every day including Thanksgiving and Christmas, and checks email from around 4 a.m. He also said: “Both of my kids work at Nvidia.”

Why it matters here. Founder playbooks, this site’s included, tend to extract a method from the winner and quietly drop the price. Huang’s answer puts the price back in. The man whose methods fill this chapter says he would not choose the path again knowing what he knows now.

Doesn’t transfer, by his own account. It is a rare founder statement that argues against copying him. If the person who won says the price was too high, the people who would pay the same price for a much smaller prize should take him at his word.
